Joy Fund
The Joy Fund is dedicated to creating joyful experiences for palliative cancer patients and families residing in Chelan, Douglas, Grant, and Okanogan Counties. Through community partnerships, this program is designed to enhance the quality of life for Cancer Warriors, allowing them to create lasting memories with loved ones.
How It Works
Who can qualify for a Joy Fund experience?
Palliative cancer warriors residing in Chelan, Douglas, Grant, or Okanogan County can be nominated for a Wellness Place Joy Fund experience.
What does it mean to be a palliative cancer warrior?
Palliative care is a type of care that focuses on improving the quality of life for people with serious illnesses, such as cancer. Our cancer warriors are in active treatment or choosing not to undergo treatment while living with cancer. Most all cancer warriors qualify for palliative care, even if they are expected to be cancer-free at the end of treatment.
What kind of experiences can the Joy Fund provide?
Examples of Joy Fund experiences include -- but are not limited to -- dinner and a show, local sporting events, overnight stays, and photography or videography sessions. Local requests are preferrable, so we may find community partners to enhance the experience. They may be experiences for the whole family, an individual, couples, and/or include pets. If you are unsure about what to request, fill out the application with as much information as possible, so we may craft something of interest to them.
If I nominate someone for a Joy Fund experience, will it be a surprise?
It can be. If we can work directly with the nominator and those closest to the cancer warrior to successfully complete the experience, then it can remain a surprise.
Are all applications fulfilled?
Although we would love to fulfill every request, funds are limited and preferable to local experiences.
How do I nominate myself or someone else for a Joy Fund experience?
Fill out an application! This may be submitted by the cancer warrior or someone who knows them. Applications are due by the 15th of every month. The committee will review applications the second half of every month and follow-up by the beginning of the following month.
How do I become a community partner for a Joy Fund experience?
Contact us! Community partners that can offer exclusive, in-kind, and/or discounted experiences allow us to offset costs so we can provide more experiences for palliative cancer warriors.
